City of Portland Mayoral Candidates to Debate Urban Planning and Design

Summary

Portland mayoral candidates Jim Francesconi and Tom Potter will argue their plans for Portland's skyline at an Oct. 12 debate hosted by the Portland chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

During Future Portland, Future Mayor, the two candidates will share their views on growth management, land-use planning, transportation, urban design and livability. The candidates will offer their short- and long-term plans for the city's landscape; prioritize urban design, transportation infrastructure, parks and culture; argue the merits of Ballot Measure 37, which would require governments to compensate landowners when legislation reduces property value; offer strategies for accommodating future growth; and discuss the role of Portland architects in the shaping of the city.
