Big Cleanup at Hanford Nuclear Complex Needs Big Contractor

Summary


It took about 20 years of operations at the Hanford nuclear production complex to dump billions of gallons of radioactive waste into the groundwater supply near Richland, Wash. But contractors will only have about 18 months to construct a complex groundwater treatment facility that will cleanse the contaminated water over the next quarter century.

CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co. is looking for a general contractor with the skill, and size, to tackle construction of the multi-building 200 West Pump and Treat Facility, a project worth tens of millions of dollars, according to CH2M Hill PR Co. contract specialist Jim Pearson.
