Nw Energy Coalition Report: Northwest Can Meet Future Energy Needs

Summary


The goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent by 2020, and by 80 percent by 2050 might seem daunting in a time when the Pacific Northwest's growing population is increasing energy demand. According to a study released Wednesday, however, the region has more than three times the renewable energy potential for those needs.

The NW Energy Coalition called its report "Bright Future," a title that reflects its optimism. For very little cost, the report says, the region can address global warming, prevent salmon extinction and end the use of coal-fired power plants.
