Peter Glade recalls a pivotal case in his career. It wasn't for a huge company, and it wasn't over multiple millions of dollars, the type his firm - Markowitz, Herbold, Glade & Mehlhaf - is known to take on. He remembers it so vividly because it was one of those cases that reminds him why he became a lawyer.

I represented an individual who worked for a fairly well known entrepreneur in town and had been promised that he would receive retirement benefits, Glade says. They did it on kind of a handshake and some notes on the back of a napkin, that kind of thing. When my client retired, his boss didn't seem to remember the deal.

Interview with Peter Glade, President of Multnomah Bar Association

Glade and his client made some demands and were brushed off, so they sued.

We tried the case in three days through a jury: We started on a Monday, won on Wednesday, and on Thursday, because his company is well known, we settled the case. We received the check on Friday, he says with a smile.

All in a week's work.

What I liked about it was that I accomplished a good result for somebody. It was the little guy versus the big guy, Glade explains. It was done efficiently, and the other side immediately saw that they should get out of it and get it over with. It felt great.
