Portland-Area's Metro Auditor Releases Grant Programs Report

Summary


Metro Auditor Alexis Dow released a report last week recommending the regional government improve its procedures on how to create, manage and control its community enhancement grant programs. Metro has awarded about $400,000 in enhancement grants in each of the past two fiscal years.

According to the audit report, incomplete procedures contributed to several problems associated with the community enhancement grant programs. In one example cited in the report, Metro allowed one organization that received about $48,000 in grants to spend almost half of the funds on administrative costs instead of the storefront improvements that were the purpose of the grants.
