Milwaukie Will Seek Federal Funding for Transit Center Work

Summary

The city of Milwaukie has decided to pursue federal stimulus funding for improvements to its downtown transit center.

Milwaukie City Council last week approved a resolution to seek federal stimulus-funded street improvements to supplement the Jackson Street Bus Shelters Project. Current project plans would shrink the current footprint of bus operations by consolidating and updating bus shelters on Jackson Street, and eliminating bus shelters and bus layover locations on S.E. 21st Ave. The project design calls for new curb extensions at the northwest and southeast ends of Jackson Street between Main Street and 21st Avenue, sidewalk improvements near the new shelters, reconstructed curb returns on two corners, ornamental street light installation, and some street reconstruction.
