Portland Neighborhood Association, Developer Scrap N.W. Parking Talks for Now

Summary

Portland City Council on Thursday voted unanimously to scrap a proposed parking lot development on Northwest Irving Street and 23rd Avenue after the developer and the Northwest District Neighborhood Association halted the city-funded mediation process.

Council had three options on the table. One was to uphold the appeal of the Northwest District Neighborhood Association and reverse the historical landmarks commission's decision to approve the parking lot by developer Singer Thurman LLC, headed by Richard Singer. Another would have been to allow more time for the two parties to try and resume mediation, and the third option was to accept the neighborhood association's and developer's request to withdraw the application all together.
