An Interview with Recipients of Sustainable Northwest's First Cecil D. Andrus Award

Anyone can have a great idea about making a company more sustainable.

All three statements are lessons pulled from the collective wisdom of John Emrick, chairman and CEO of Norm Thompson Outfitters, and Karla Chambers, founder of Stahlbush Island Farms.

Emrick and his wife, Jane, and Karla and her husband, Bill, were honored Thursday night as recipients of Sustainable Northwest's first Cecil D. Andrus Award, which recognizes their continued success as environmentally aware, community-focused, innovative and sustainability-sharing enterprises.

The Andrus awards, named for the passionate conservationist, environmentalist and former Idaho governor who helped found Sustainable Northwest, is the organization's first foray into a formal award program. Its Founders of a New Northwest book series, published every other year, tells the stories of rural and urban people who are actually practicing sustainability hands-on, said Martin Goebel, founding president of Sustainable Northwest.
