Summary
The State of Oregon announced yesterday the purchase of 43,000 acres of young pine trees in Gilchrist, located in Central Oregon. The State purchased the land from the Montana-based Fidelity National Timber Resources Inc. with $15 million in lottery-backed bonds authorized in the 2009 legislative session.
The purchase marks the first new state forest to be created in Oregon since 1948 when the State purchased land for the Sun Pass State Forest, also located in Klamath County. The state currently manages just over 800,000 acres of forestland, mostly concentrated in five state forests: Clatsop, Elliott, Santiam, Sun Pass and Tillamook.See the full content of this document
